I don't mean the payment. Donation should be voluntary.
But in some countries, donor and her/his family member will be entitled to be free for using 3 times of the blood donation in lifetime. Anyone could tell such a policy/benefit of blood donation in Singapore? Thanx

"In 1965, the Medical Benefits Scheme for regular blood donors was introduced. This gave them discounts on medical treatments among other benefits.

In 2002, this was abolished for new blood donors as there is a lower risk of contamination when blood is donated voluntarily.

medical benefit was abolished for new regular blood donors since 2002. old regular blood donors who continue to donate regularly will still get the benefit.

i am not sure whether you can nominate your wife. parent definitely can because i nominated my mum. the benefit of nominee will not be the same. slightly less. for instance, nominee no need to pay for polyclinic consultation but go to pay for medicine. you can get the list of benefits for regular blood donors and their nominee at HSA blood bank. you can also do the nomination at the blood bank counter. need to have documents to prove your relationship with your nominee.

I'm just curious, Why do some donors have special medical benefits (i.e. free consultation in polyclinics etc.) while I do not have. . All along I had been a regular donor since when I was studying.

If you have started blood donation before 2002 but did not donate at least 2 times a year, then the benefit will cease due to lapse. If you can prove that the lapse is due to medical condition and hence unable to donate, then blood bank will consider reinstate the benefits for you.

i empathsise with you. you can feedback to the blood bank to see what they say. Convince them that if you know your blood is contaminated, you would never donate just for the medical benefits.

you can feedback to them at

http://eservice.hsa.gov.sg/internet/dcController?next=i_feedback (http://eservice.hsa.gov.sg/internet/dcController?next=i_feedback)

if many blood donors feedback to them, perhaps they would reconsider giving the medical benefits to all regular donors.

Good luck :)
