Hi, I was diagnosed to have mild MVP, but I do not and is not taking any medication. I have been told, read from MVP groups all over the world that people with MVP condition can still donate blood.
Why do the blood donation centre in Singapore not allow people with MVP to donate? I play basketball regularly and consider myself healthy.

Hi BMan,
Thank you for your enquiry. Below is the answer from Doctor of Bloodbank@HSA:
Donors with mild mitral valve prolapse but does not required antibiotic
cover when undergoing dental treatment can still donate whole blood.
However, if they have thicken valve, need antibiotic when going for dental
treatment or has chest pain, blood donation may have harmful effect on
them. Hence they are not advisable to donate blood.
