Hello plasma,

Welcome :) . Finally a champion of champion donor (> = 150 x) in our forum :)

What makes you start donating blood? What drives you to continue donating blood for decades?:)

Now that you have reached the champion of champion donor, how do you feel? What is your next goal?:D

Thank you very much Shan Xue.

The 1st time for me was in the army way back in the ‘70s. We were “encouraged “to donate if we are medically fit. Not wanting to let my company down and with incentive given if we donate, I went along to donate. Every time we donate was a fun thing then. The whole company will go to the General Hospital or the mobile blood bank will come to Safti. After donation we were given drinks and snack. Most of us will ask for Tiger beer. To drink beer during official working hours is something then.

After the army, I carry on donating but not so regular due to work commitment. This got worse when I travel for business. With a busy schedule donating blood is the last thing on my mind.

The turning point came when my mother had an operation and needed blood. Then I realized the how important blood really is and the importance of the blood donation program.

From then on I make it a point to donate whenever I can. In order to donate blood we need to have good health and time. Time we can arrange but health is something that we cannot take for granted. Without good health we can do a lot of things. Since I am blessed with good health it is important that I do my part to help through the blood donation program.

No special feeling being champion of champion. Every donation means another opportunity to help. Every donation means someone will benefit.

My goal is to donate as long as I can. With good health I hope to go on donating for a long time more.

Be happy and enjoy your day.

Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars.:)

Wow, that is indeed very impressive!

Care to share some tips on how to maintain good health so that you can donate blood that many times? :)

Hi Louis,

No special tips for good health. I wish I knew.

I do not like meat and take very little of it. I prefer vegetable, fruits and nuts. I do take fast food occasionally. So you see no special diet. I try to have a balance diet. My idea of balance = more vegetable, fruits, nuts, less carbohydrate and very little meat.

When I was young, the char siew in the pau is always given to my brother. Like wise with Chinese rice dumpling. Maybe last life I was a monk.:)

I exercise (aerobic as well anaerobic) regularly, 3 to 5 times per week, when I am able. Have enough sleep, 6 ˝ hrs.

I don’t smoke and am a social drinker. That’s life for me. And I am still working so the mind is kept busy. Have a positive attitude.;)
