With people now living healthier and longer, we are encourage to work longer too. With this in mind, shouldn't donation of blood go beyond age 60? After all I think the reason of stopping at 60 is health related. Shouldn't we check the donor’s health? This will allow healthy donor to go on donating? This is important as the senior will feel that they can still contribute and is still useful.

I heard from the nurse that they allow apheresis donors who have donated before they are age 60, to continue donating beyond 60 years old if they are healthy.
Not sure whether it applies to whole blood donors.

Regular donors who are 66-70 years old can still donate until 70 provided they present a memo certifying they are fit to donate blood.
