hi, iIve noticed that in this year there's been an upsurge of efforts to increase blood donation, like the SPH Red Challege, advertisement in cinemas and MRTs. Why the sudden increase in effort? Does this mean that the statistic of only 1% of Singaporeans donating blood is no longer true? How was advertising done in the past?

Hi, I'm glad our efforts have not gone unnoticed. More efforts have been made in order for us to ensure a healthy and constant supply of blood at all times. Everyday, about 250 units of blood are required by the hospitals in Singapore for patients requiring blood transfusions.
We aim to increase the current number of regular blood donors from 1 to 2 per cent out of total population by 2007, and 3 per cent by 2010. We also aim to increase the current stock of 3 days to 5 days and a healthy level of 8 to 10 days by 2010. In so doing, we can ensure sufficient safe blood supply, help ease or prevent acute shortages during festive periods, school breaks and also in times of emergencies.
This is not the first time advertisements are put up. We probably have not been agressive enough when using such mode. In the past, we have bus-stop Ads, editorials and radio Ads, sponsored by corporate organisations. Sponsors and our partners-in-service play a big role here. This year, we have more support from sponsors and our partners-in-service thus, advertising comes in a more agressive form.
Thank you and hope this clarifies.
